After the release of the Final FMVSS 226 - Ejection Mitigation Rule on January 13th, many automotive experts have been surprised by the significant differences in many details compared to the NPRM. On the one hand the industry's request for lower impactor velocity was considered but on the other hand the final rule now includes a rotation of the impactor which results in the need of testing non-NPRM side windows. Also the requirements for test equipment have been modified so that many facilities have to be updated or replaced. Due to the early phase-In in 2013, it is very difficult to deal with the requirements in time. (Image: Bertrandt)
